SCHOOL IS NOT COMPULSORY... Welcome to FLAGS Home Education Group in Exeter.
Coronavirus: Please note, we're not meeting at the moment. If you'd like advice about home education, the websites below are very useful.
Thousands of children in the UK receive an education without attending school. This is often known as home-education or home-schooling.
Home-education is not 'school at home' (unless you want it to be). You don't have to follow the National Curriculum, have timetables or lesson plans (but you can if you wish). You can choose an approach to learning that best suits your own child.
For more about home-education we would suggest the websites of Education Otherwise and Educational Freedom. These organisations provide loads of helpful information for families who are considering home-education, including information about the current law and how to de-register from school.
There is a large community of home-educating families in Devon, and many home-education groups in and around Exeter offering various activities and opportunities to get together for socialising and mutual support.
We have two social groups in Exeter, where families get together to play and socialise in a relaxed and unstructured environment. Each group meets once a week for 2-3 hours and parents stay with their children.
We have a group for all ages which meets at Sylvania Hall in Mincinglake Valley Park, and a teens group which meets at the 100 Club in Countess Wear. Whether you are currently home-educating or considering home-ed, you are welcome to come along. Contact us to find out more.
